Sugar Road and Maud Street Transport Upgrade Gears Up with Interim Works

Maroochydore motorists will soon notice some changes along Sugar Road as Sunshine Coast Council progresses the Sugar Road and Maud Street Transport Corridor Upgrade. The project, designed to improve traffic flow, safety and prepare the area for future growth, is now moving into its next phase with targeted interim works.

From Wednesday 21 January, line marking and lane adjustments will be carried out between Oloway Crescent and the Sugar Road-Wises Roads roundabout. To reduce disruption for businesses and residents, the first stage of these works will be completed overnight, from 7pm to 5am, weather permitting.

The interim works will include:

  • Replacing the existing single centre line with a double centre line
  • Extending two northbound departure lanes at the Wises Road roundabout
  • Relocating the northbound merge point closer to Oloway Crescent
  • Introducing a dedicated southbound cycle lane
  • Removing on-street parking in the affected section to make way for the new lanes and cycle facilities

During the overnight works, Sugar Road will be closed to through traffic, with detours and traffic control in place. Residents and businesses within this section will still have local access, though motorists are advised to allow extra travel time. Some intermittent, low-level noise is expected.

A reminder to local motorists: any vehicles parked between the Sugar-Wises Roads roundabout and Oloway Crescent must be removed by 6pm Tuesday 20 January to avoid towing. Council has confirmed that on-street parking will not be reinstated in this section once the works are complete.

These interim works are a key step in preparing Maroochydore’s transport network for the future. Council thanks the community for its patience as the area moves towards a safer, more efficient, and future-ready roadway.
