First Avenue Upgrade: Early Site Investigation Works Underway

The revitalisation of Maroochydore’s CBD is one step closer, with early site investigation works beginning soon as part of the First Avenue Upgrade project.

This exciting project will transform First Avenue into a vibrant, shady and inclusive streetscape, creating a more inviting space for businesses, residents and visitors to live, work and play.

Preparing for Construction

Major construction is set to commence by mid-2026, stretching from Aerodrome Road through to The Esplanade and Duporth Avenue bridge. To prepare for this transformation, early underground service investigations will be carries out in August and September 2025.

These investigations are a crucial step in identifying the precise location, depth and type of essential underground utilities – including water, electrical, gas and telecommunication services – before construction begins.

Works will start at the northern end of First Avenue near Duporth Avenue and progress south toward Aerodrome Road.

What to Expect

  • Work hours: Monday to Friday, between 6am to 4pm
  • On-site Activity: Contractors and specialist equipment, including vacuum trucks
  • Service Continuity: No interruptions to electricity, water or telecommunications
  • Traffic and Pedestrian Changes:
    • Intermittent single-lane closures with traffic controllers
    • Occasional diversions for pedestrians
    • Temporary use of on-street parking bays for equipment

Supporting the Future of Maroochydore

While some temporary changes may affect travel through the area, these early works are a vital step in bringing the community’s vision for a modern, connected and people friendly CBD to life.
