Maroochy Member Mail – March 2023

It’s around this time of the year we comment on how quickly the year has flown by, can you believe March is all but done and Easter is upon us?

This year the Chamber is working hard to provide great value to its members through events and advocacy work. The Chamber has already hosted successful events with guest speakers, including former Wallabies Captain John Eales and former AFL premiership player Tom Boyd, who shared messages of resilience and positivity. The Chamber has also held popular coffee and connect events, while prioritizing advocacy work on behalf of its members, particularly related to securing funding for the mass transit system to serve the growing region in preparation for the 2032 Olympics.

As our membership grows, we understand the need to continue to invest in the tools and resources to ensure you receive value from your membership. Our greatest asset is our wonderful Membership Coordinator, Sharon Dryden who has been integral in proactively communicating with our members and keeping our Executive Committee updated about our member’s needs.

Sharon now has a dedicated phone number to answer any questions you may have about your membership: 0408 389 365. This phone will be monitored on a part-time basis so please leave a detailed voice message and she will return your call on the next working day. Alternatively, you can email membership@maroochy.org .

We would like to acknowledge our amazing Membership Committee, Charmaine Bastin, Richard Turnbull, and Anita Piers, for their dedication to strategically support our members. They diligently serve as a brains trust for connecting members with other professionals in the community, creating relevant opportunities for networking, and building relationships that lead to new ventures. We are so grateful for their hard work and commitment to our members.

Lastly, If you know a business that could benefit from joining the Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce, please pass on details to Sharon and she will contact them directly. If this business becomes a member, you will receive another month free on your membership as a thank you for your referral. There is no limit to the number of businesses you can refer, and we will send you a personalised email letting you know that we have contacted them.

Welcome to our new Business Members

As we enter the second quarter of the year, we are excited to see our membership sustaining well over 300 members. We would like to welcome the following members to the Chamber:

Please take the time to reach out and welcome our new members, either through the membership directory, at an event or phone them directly.

Congratulations to those members who are achieving membership milestones this year:

ChamberCast With the President & Pep

With thanks to our sponsor Southern Cross Austereo we’ve been in a fortunate position to interview some of the region’s leading identities.   In December we spoke to Sunshine Coast-based World Champion Ultraman Richard Thompson which has been a hugely popular podcast. This month we speak to SunCentral CEO Amanda Yeates.  Take a listen to hear Amanda speak on her role, future plans for the Maroochydore City Centre and her thoughts on a solution for the region’s mass transit needs. Amanda is incredibly knowledgeable and engaging, we think you will enjoy this Chambercast. Please let us know your feedback.

Sunshine Coast Council extends ParkSmart Program.

Sunshine Coast Council commenced the ParkSmart program in July 2022 which included the introduction of an advanced parking-monitoring vehicle equipped with number plate recognition technology.

The program is designed to improve the workplace safety for Regulated Parking Officers by decreasing exposure to occupational violence. Patrols continue to be designed to encourage vehicle turnover, creating parking opportunities and allowing equitable and safe access to various locations in our region.

Two vehicles are currently deployed conducting patrols in Birtinya, Point Cartwright, Nicklin Way, Caloundra, Eumundi, Nambour, and the Maroochydore City Centre.

On 27th March, an additional vehicle commenced patrols in the wider Maroochydore, Alexandra Headland, and Mooloolaba areas. There will be a four-week educational period with caution notices issued before infringements would then be imposed.

For more information about ParkSmart, visit www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/parking
