Listening, Learning and Connecting: Supporting Conversations in Kunda Park

Last week, representatives from the Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce attended a business workshop in the Kunda Park industrial precinct with one clear purpose – to listen. As a Chamber, we recognise that strong infrastructure, reliable connectivity and safe transport access are critical to the success of local businesses. These challenges impact more than individual operators; they shape productivity, staffing, service delivery and ultimately the economic health of our wider region. So, when conversations like these take place in one of our key employment hubs, it matters that the business community is present and engaged.

The workshop brought together a diverse mix of Kunda Park business owners, industry representatives and government support services to share the everyday issues affecting how they operate. Traffic congestion, confusing intersection design, peak-time delays and ongoing mobile and internet connectivity limitations were among the key concerns raised. For many businesses, these challenges influence everything from staff movement and job scheduling to the simple ability to move through the precinct efficiently. Hearing these firsthand experiences is essential to understanding the realities facing the businesses we represent across Maroochydore and its surrounding areas.

At this session, the Chamber attended not to advocate but to observe, learn and support. We wanted to better understand which issues matter most to the precinct’s operators, how local businesses are beginning to organise, what kind of information or assistance they may need and how these insights intersect with broader planning conversations across the Maroochydore City Centre. Our members consistently tell us how important it is to stay informed about the infrastructure and connectivity developments that affect the way they do business, and staying connected to conversations like this helps us play that role effectively.

Kunda Park itself is a vital contributor to the Sunshine Coast economy, supporting a wide network of trades, manufacturing, logistics, supply chain services and technical support relied on by businesses throughout Maroochydore. What happens in Kunda Park creates a ripple effect well beyond the precinct, influencing operations right across the City Centre and broader region. Understanding these linkages helps the Chamber keep members informed and aware of emerging issues that may impact the wider business environment.

Right now, the Kunda Park business community is still in the early stages of gathering information and exploring how best to communicate its priorities. The Chamber is not making any formal commitments at this point – but we are staying close to the discussion so we can continue to keep our members updated as things progress. Our focus remains on supporting strong, connected and well-informed business communities across the Maroochydore region.

Do you have something to contribute to this matter? There is a few ways to get involved;

  • A Kunda Park Alliance (KPA) has been established be a group of local businesses and workers to advocate for and promote the Kunda Park Precinct. Membership of KPA is free and open to Kunda Park businesses, workers, property owners and supporters. You can join the Alliance or register for updates at www.kundapark.net
  • A Kunda Park Community Survey is currently open for people to have their say on priorities for the precinct here. The number one priority so far (96% support) is fixing the traffic and congestion problems.
